HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

I've seen several blog posts devoted to celebrating the Fourth of July so I thought I would join in.
We are so blessed to have been born in the United States of America. I know it's not the perfect place to live, but compared to many other countries, it looks pretty darned good to me.
I wanted to share some pictures of flags and things associated with this holiday. I love looking at pictures of the American flag with it's beautiful colors blowing in the wind. (Be sure you scroll to the bottom. You'll be glad you did.)

The image below is embroidered.

Some flags have other images to also symbolize our freedom such as the Statue of Liberty.

Some images are forever etched in our minds. At least those of us old enough to remember our history lessons.

I hope we all will take time to pray for our soldiers who are giving so much to fight to keep us free and safe from harm. I have a special young Marine friend, 2nd Lt. Joseph Swearingen, in Afghanistan right now, and I pray for his protection every day.

Also remember the One on High who gave the supreme sacrifice for us all to be saved and born again.

Now I will leave you with some "Food for Thought". These pics came from the Food Network.

Last I will leave you with these yummy cookies and the caption that was under the picture.

"When baking these scrumptious cookies, be sure to not burn America. And when icing them, be extra vigilant that the colors don't run."

DEAR SHIRLEY,
IF I WAS THERE I WOULD GIVE YOU A GREAT BIG HUG AND PRAISE GOD, YOU ARE WHOLE AND cancer-FREE!!!! I LOVE TO HEAR WHEN SOMEONE BEATS THAT deamon cancer.
MY ONLY DAUGHTER, AMY WAS DIAGNOSED WITH squamous cell carcinoma OF THE TONGUE WHEN SHE WAS 32 YEARS OLD. IT WAS FAR ADVANCED...THEY WOULD HAVE HAD TO DO A RADICAL SURGERY WHICH WOULD HAVE LEFT HER WITH NO TONGUE AND HAVING TO REPLACE JAW BONE AND SHE REFUSED...SHE WENT THROUGH CHEMOTHERAPY AND RADIATION AND HER LITTLE BODY COULD TAKE NO MORE. THEY PUT A TRACH IN MID AUGUST AND A FEEDING TUBE AND SHE GRADUATED TO HEAVEN OCT. 23, 2009 AT 10:12PM AT OUR HOME WEIGHING ONLY 47 POUNDS.
SHE ALSO HAD A VERY RARE cancer WHEN SHE WAS 101/2 YEARS OLD CALLED RHABDOMYOSARCOMA....inoperable...football size tumor in her pelvis....4 years of chemotherapy and 38 radiation treatments....PRAISE GOD we were BLESSED with 20 more years.
NOONE, NOT A SOUL IN EITHER OF OUR FAMILIES EVER HAD SUCH CANCERS....NEVER WAS A CHILD UNDER 48 EVER TAKEN HOME TO GOD.
THERE'S AN ANGEL ON MY FRONT PORCH TELLS HER WHOLE JOURNEY AND IT IS QUITE GRAPHIC. I SPARED NOT A SINGLE DETAIL AS I WANTED IT TO BRING HOPE AND ANSWER QUESTIONS TO ANY ONE WHO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH cancer of the tongue. WE COULD NOT FIND ANYONE WHO COULD HELP ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS OTHER THAN THE DRS. AND WHAT THEY SAID WAS JUST NOT REAL TO US. I WAS A NURSE FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND I HAD NEVER, EVER HEARD OF tongue cancer.
YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL MY NEW FRIEND.
AMY HAD DR. MEDINA AND HE IS A WORLD RENOUNED DR. GOING ALL OVER THE WORLD TO DO THESE SURGERIES. AMY CALLED HIM
THE TONGUE SNATCHER AND HE WASN'T GETTING HERS.
THE PICTURES OF THE OCEAN ARE BEAUTIFUL. ARE THE BEACHES WHERE YOU ARE AT, COVERED IN OIL?
I HAVE BEEN TO THE OCEAN ONE TIME FOR A 1/2 DAY WHEN MY DAD TOOK US TO CHARLESTON, SC. I CAN'T IMAGINE WALKING A LONG THE BEACH LOOKING FOR SHELLS, STARFISH AND SEA GLASS...YOU MUST LOVE IT DEARLY.
THANK YOU SHIRLEY FOR SHARING YOUR STORY.
BLESSINGS AND HUGS
